June 24, 2009 Update
Leave No Trace Award ~ CANNOT be put on Uniform. It is to put on the red vest or a Patch Blanket or whatever the boys want to put it on besides their uniforms. The first time I called the Scout Shop they told me it went on uniform, but when I called back today to ask Where, that is when they told me.
June 30th ~ Last den meeting until 3rd Tuesday in August. We will be having a Birthday party to celebrate everyone's birthdays and playing games. Sister Nalder will stop by at 4:15 for 5 minutes to discuss the upcoming primary activity on July 11th with the boys (this will complete an activity in their Faith in God books). If boys could bring a roll of toilet paper with them on Tuesday for a fun game that would be great! Any boys turning 8yrs old by October 2009 are invited to attend as well.
July 3rd is the deadline to turn written notice into Scout Office if your son is NOT going to be going to Day Camp July 13-17th to receive a full refund. Fax # is 242-8233. Make sure you put Pack 425 on your letter so they know who to refund the money to.
Day Camp ~ Spring VanCleave will be driving and staying with the scouts all five days. Brother Fraser has volunteered for Monday, July 13th. We need a 2nd parent or Leader volunteer for Tuesday, Wed, Thur & Fri. Scout office also needs volunteers to help run the camp each day (The 2 parents chaperoning the kids cannot volunteer, our job is to herd the kids to each activity). If you are interested in volunteering contact me.
Donations for the "Reward Box" are needed. Can be anything from candy to flashlights to whatever.
Next Pack meeting is the 4th Tuesday in July and Jacob Keene and Brock Chapman will be advancing!
June 8th, 2009
June 8th, 2009
We have a lot to get done this month! We have two boys moving dens in June and two in July.
I will be picking up Ethan, Devin, Dillon & Jacob from School on Tuesday and it would be helpful if Brock, McKay, Josh & Michael could meet at our house at 3:30pm. I could pick McKay & Josh up from School at 3:05pm if that would be easier for parents.
Each boy has something a little bit different to be completed this tuesday and there are only two adults to help 7 boys do different things and we have to be done by 5:15pm because Jasmyn has a choir concert.
So, please pick the boys up by 5:15pm!
3rd Tuesday ~ Hike at Dishman Hills
Cub Scouts should bring the compass necklace with them (completed), a water bottle & appropriate shoes. We will meet at our house at 3:45pm and we will bring the boys home after the hike. I can pick up boys from school. If it would be easier for Brock to meet us at Dishman Hills at 4:15pm that would be ok. Just let me know. Parents are welcome to come too. I will send an update next week on what achievements/electives/awards the boys will be working on during the hike.
Pack Meeting:
Since it is at 6pm and most of us have other kids that need to be at the church by 7pm, Maybe we could figure something out where we drop them off at someone’s house who lives close to the church or who will also be going to the church at 7pm and can take them….Sister Perranoud lives close, Camille Clarkson and Delitra Moyes also live within walking distance….
Day Camp:
Is July 13-17th. I plan on taking boys everyday (along with the other parent volunteer).
I Need another parent volunteer for Tue/wed/thur/fri. I have Rob Fraser down for Monday.
As of today, all day camp fees have been paid for your child ($76). We need to be notified by July 3rd if your child will not be attending so that we can get a refund on the fees. If you do not notify us by July 3rd you will be responsible for reimbursing the church the Day Camp Fees. (Michael Lacaze, McKay Larsen, Jacob Keene, Jacob’s step brother, Devin & Dillon, Josh Fraser and Brock Chapman).
Summer Den Meetings
We have been asked to NOT have den meetings in the summer by one of the parents. Since we have a week of day camp in July and I have girls camp the first week of August, it seems reasonable to not have den meetings in July and start back up the 3rd Tuesday in August. This will give us time to plan for the year. If boys want to come over and play one day a week – that would be fine. Let me know what your thoughts are.

Brian Paulson has agreed to help the boys cut out their derby cars. If you are interested we are meeting Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10:00am at his house. The boys must have their DESIGN already drawn on the car. If they want to rough sand it at his house & get some tips have them bring some sand paper (the course kind I'm guessing, not fine).
Reminder: Blue & Gold Banquet this Tuesday at 7:00pm at the church. RSVP to Casey Robison the number of people from your family that are attending (for food count).
Police Department Field Trip for Bears & Wolf
Our "Go See It" Field trip for March will be on the 10th. We will be going to the Liberty Lake Police Department (their new building) and learning how to do finger printing. We will meet at our house at 4:15pm SHARP, so we can be at the Police Department by 4:30pm. We will come back to our house to finish up & should be done at 5:30pm.
3rd Den Meeting ~ February 10th
The Bear Den made Neckerchief Slides out of craft foam in the shape of a state. Jacob chose Texas, Dillon & Devin chose Washington State, Spring chose MN, Dave chose Oregon.
The Boys took a break by jumping on the trampoline!
They had fun making faces at the camera. Next week we will start our Den Scrapbook. So, I have printed all of these photos to add to their scrapbook. If you have any pictures of the boys doing scouting activities, please send with them to the next meeting.

We checked out a bunch of books from the library for the boys to read & learn about our Flag, the Statue of Liberty, The Presidents, The Bald Eagle, etc. Jacob shared some Cool facts about the Bald Eagle, Dillon & Devin shared some facts about the Statue of Liberty.
At home this week if the boys could think of what makes America Special to them and share it next week at Den Meeting, that would be great!
We will be going on a field trip to the Mac Museum this Saturday. This will complete an achievement for the boys and hopefully will give them more insight to American History and history from our Area.
2nd Den Meeting ~ February 3rd
This meeting the boys brought their books so we could get their achievements recorded & get their awards up to date. The theme this month is American ABC's and it is the Blue & Gold Banquet. Those boys completed the "which state" activity, sang the "Grand Ole Duke of York" & Made invitations to parents & leaders for the Banquet.

Jacob earned his Bobcat Badge and chose to receive his Badge at the Den meeting instead of waiting for the pack meeting.

Mckay led our Den in a flag ceremony, completing Achievement 2b in the Wolf Book. McKay also completed two electives while making his invitations (by making & using a stencil and by free hand drawing a picture on one of the cards. 12a & 12e)
Ethan received his Bobcat Badge as well (for Tiger Cubs) and by making 24 valentines and Ocean Bottom Crackers for our Den snack he completed two electives. We have the Achievement poster posted on our Den bulletin board, so the boys can see their progress every week.
Devin, Jacob & Dillon completed Elective 23 in the bear hand book at this meeting. The boys learned about identify states on a US Map. They also drew maps from their homes to their schools. The boys also finished their Code of Conduct, adding consequences & rewards. The boys thought a good consequence would be cleaning toilets, cleaning house or timeout. Though they opted that if they were the ones misbehaving that they would be able to choose their own consequence instead of letting their den mates choose for them, cause we know the boys would pick toilets every time for others! The boys are very well behaved and follow their Den Code of Conduct very well.
They do have BIG appetites! I have discovered that they love grapes & crackers, but don't like peanut butter & celery or cheese!

McKay should learn about our state flag and share with the den at an upcoming meeting to meet one of his achievements.
Need ~ We need someone to come to a den meeting this month & show us how to fold a flag properly (I was in the military for ten years, but I can't remember for the life of me how to do it properly).
1st Den Meeting ~ January 20th.
This was our first den meeting as the new Den Leaders. The theme for January was Amazing Games. We worked on completing Achievements in the Bear & Wolf books by playing games. McKay led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, Devin led us in the Cub Scout Promise and Dillon said the prayer. We took pictures of the cub scouts so that we could put their picture on our Den display board and write a little information about each boy, so they could get to know each other better.
We asked the boys what they wanted to learn about in cub scouts, they said: "Dinosaurs, Go to Museum's and Politics". The Games we played: Sleeping Lions, Human Knot, Honey do you love me.
We created our Den Code of Conduct ~ Rules the boys come up with for the Den, for them all to abide by. They did a really good job.
1st Pack Meeting ~ January 27th
Question for Parents
Do the boys have memberships to the YMCA?
Blue & Gold Banquet is Feb. 24th at 7:00pm. Boys need to wear uniform & bring a bag of chips.
Pinewood Derby is March 24th. I have pinewood derby cars if you would like to pick up now & work on them. Parents can do the heavy machinery part, but boys have to do the rest.
